  • LEFT PAGE 404 Thursday March 13 Shusharte Morning came in calm, 4 inch Bay snow on deck, from showers Calm [on, struckthrough] during day. No Wood to fit for use to be got here Bull at 12:30 weighed and beat Harbor up to "Bull Harbor" arrived at 4:45 --- Friday March 14 at Morning came in fine & [and] cold. old 6 inch snow on deck. All day Bull changeable. Got some Wood Harbor here and Made Boat Sail --- Saturday March 15 at The coldest and Wildest day Bull we had yet. A heavy S.E. Harbor gale raging all day. Made up Boat Sail & [and] filed down Shackles --- Sunday March 16 at Changeable. Wet Weather S.E. Very unpleasant. 20 days Bull out from Victoria Harbor --- Monday March 17 Came in fair. Wind S.E S.E. Coiled line and got Boat Bull ready. At 12 it came on to Harbor rain hard and Kept on all day & night. --- Tuesday March 18 S.E. Came in with heavy rain. Kept Bull on all day. Unable to any thing Harbor in such bad weather. --- Wednesday March 19 Bull Came in with heavy Rain. S.E. Thick Weather. No appearance Harbor of clearing up. Rain. Rain. --- Tuesday [Thursday] March 20 From Came in with a light S.E. Bull Breeze. At 10 A.M got Harbor under weigh and towed out of the harbor, having RIGHT PAGE 405 lain here 7 days, and only 24 to hours dry weather in all that Newitte time. At 5 P.M. towed into Ranch Harbor Near Newitte Ranch. Traded tobacco and Red cloth for fish. --- Friday March 21 Came in calm and continued West calm all day. Remained at all at Newittee Ranch anchor --- Saturday March 22 Came in Calm, with heavy rain over to from N. East. Cleared up at 8 Shadwell Got under weigh and towed Pass. around to Shadwell Passage close to where "Saranae" was lost. Saw Boiler Etc which are 4 feet under low Water Mark. --- Sunday March 23 at Heavy North Wester. Remained Shadwell at anchor all day in Shadwell Pass Passage. 27 days out. --- Monday March 24 From Came in calm & [and] fine. At 7 Got Shadwell under weigh, but could not make Pass any headway against the strong to flood tide. At 9 got around Anchor Cape James and had a good in S.E. breeze which fetched us to Safety Cape Calvert at 4 P.M. when Cove it fell Calm. Towed into No Safety Cove. Arrived at 8 P.M. Whales Keeping past Cape Calvert, Kept So far a look out for any indications of the lost "Wright" without any success. This is the most dangerous Part of the Coast there being a great many sunken Rocks. 28 days out.
