I left Victoria on Friday Evening at 9 oclock on the "Barbara Boscounty" bound for Alert Bay. The night was very fine and clear, with light S. West wind. We arrived at Nanaimo at 8 a.m. Staid 2 hours. Left at 10 a.m. After leaving Nanaimo, we had a strong Southeast wind with strong sea, and rain. We ran up the Gulf with a fair wind. We got to Cape Mudge at 7 and ran through "Seymour Narrows" at 9. There was a heavy sea and tide in the Narrows. Ran along all night and arrived at Alert Bay at 7 on Sunday morning. This is only a cannery place. I staid 4 weeks and left on Saturday Evening July 28 for Victoria at 7 P.M. Ran down Broughton Straits all night and through Johnsone Straits Ran Past Cape Mudge at 10 and came through Seymour Narrows at 8 oclock with a fine tide. Ran down the Gulf all day, past Cape Lazo and Texada Island and got to Nanaimo at 11 oclock. Did not go into the Harbour, but sent a Boat ashore. Ran all night. Passed through "Plumper Pass" at 6 oclock and got to Victoria at 12.
