Morning came in fine & [and] calm.
At 7 got under weigh, but
being calm, did not get out
of Tolmie Channel till 12
& [and] had to down "Finlayson
Channel & [and] through Milbank
Sound. As weather appeared
fine, we Kept out and
Rounded "Cape Day" at dark.
Wind N.N.W. nearly ahead.
At 10 Reefed Mainsail and
took in Flying Jib. Heavy
sea and N.N.W. gale.

Friday April 4
At 12 A.M. Night blowing N.W.
gale, about 20 miles off Cape May
had to put back and ran back
for "Milbank Sound". Men
seasick. Saw 2 Whales
First seen. At 2 got back
to "Milbank Sound." 6 P.M.
entered Finlayson Channel.
Light Easterly Wind.

Saturday April 5
Drifting about all day in
Finlayson Channel. In Evening
a light S.E. Breeze came up.
and we worked out toward "Nelson Bay"

Sunday April 6
Came in Calm. Off "Watson
Bay" at 10 a.m. S.E. Breeze
light all day till 6 P.M. when
it came on stronger. Ran past
Work Island at 6 P.M. and
anchored at Holmes Bay at 12 P.M.

Monday April 7
Strong S.E. gale all night and
all day. Heavy rain. Remained
all day at anchor in Homes
Bay. Bad Weather.

Came in fine and calm. Got
on Wood & [and] Water. Calm all day

Wednesday April 9
Came in calm. Light S.E. Got
up Anchor and beat towards
_______ Island. At 5 P.M. A
heavy S.E. swuall came on, and
as we could not make the Island
we ran back, and came to anchor
under high land in Whale Channel
about 7 miles from Homes Bay
Heavy rain all night & [and] afternoon.

Thursday April 10
Came in Calm. At noon tide
changed. Got up Anchor and
into a light N.E. air worked
down Whale Channel. At 6
was off "Passage Island"
At 2 passed North Surf Island
and Kept across the sound with
a S.East Breeze.

Friday April 11
Came in with a strong S.E. Breeze
at 10 A.M. Sighted Queen
Charlottes Islands. At 2 P.M.
felt away calm with a heavy
swell, 6 P.M. Calm. Kept off
Queen C. Islands all night.

Saturday April 12
At 9:50 P.M. came in with N.W.
Breeze and cold. At 7 was
off Clues [Clew] An Indian in a
canoe came on Board and
directed us down the Coast and
into a large Strait or channel
he said there was some
Whales, and reported plenty when
warm weather came. 40 days out
at Anchor. Wind & [and] Rain.
