  • Canis latrans. [Coyote] Banff, Alta. [Alberta] April 28/43 [1943] Pellet in Kootenay 100% moose - Very little coyote sign in Kootenay. Had cleaned up remains of lion killed elk but last winter touched only a few of the dead sheep. Banff Alta [Alberta] - June 2/43 [1943] 1 pellet 50% groundsquirrel 50% deer hair. 1 " [pellet] 100% elk - carcass nearby. Mange reported to be abundant in the park - see excerpt from warden Banff. Alta [Alberta] (Boom Cr. [creek]) June 3/43 [1943] 1 pellet 90% artostaphylos [Arctostaphylos] 10% coyote hair 1 pellet 100% moose bone + hair. seemed to be foot + tail tip. No sign of coyote other than these two pellets close down by the road. Carrot Cr. [Creek] June 4/43 [1943] Saw fresh tracks on the trail 6 miles up the creek + near our camp found several fecal pellets as follows: 1 100% rabbit 1 95% sheep 5% microtine
