  • Journal sheep, but we saw two ranges on the grassy knoll to the left of the photo. On the Southesk side of the divide the head of the creek is a fine sheep basin but is only casualy [casually] visited by sheep + much more heavily used by elk. Game seen Elk 49 Sheep 11 Rocky Forks. July 19/44 [1944] Yesterday we left Southesk Lake at 10:15 AM. with a cloudless sky + rode over Southesk Pass. We made camp at the springs just on the north side of the pass - at the point where the discharge from the blind lake in the pass appears. We were 7 1/2 hours in the saddle + found the going most difficult. Trail hard to follow + pass steep + unbelievably rugged Phillips last August saw a band of sheep in the pass but there is no suitable range for sheep + it must have been only a wandering band. Game Seen:- 4 elk 4 moose 1 coyote. 3 deer Today we left our Southesk Pass camp + came through to this
