sheep, but we saw two ranges on
the grassy knoll to the left of the
photo. On the Southesk side of the divide
the head of the creek is a fine sheep basin
but is only casualy [casually] visited by sheep +
much more heavily used by elk.
Game seen Elk 49
Sheep 11
Rocky Forks. July 19/44 [1944]
Yesterday we left Southesk Lake at
10:15 AM. with a cloudless sky +
rode over Southesk Pass. We
made camp at the springs just on
the north side of the pass - at the
point where the discharge from
the blind lake in the pass appears.
We were 7 1/2 hours in the saddle
+ found the going most difficult.
Trail hard to follow + pass steep
+ unbelievably rugged
Phillips last August saw a
band of sheep in the pass but
there is no suitable range for
sheep + it must have been only
a wandering band.
Game Seen:- 4 elk
4 moose
1 coyote.
3 deer
Today we left our Southesk
Pass camp + came through to this
