- Twenty six black terns were over the lake + some scarcely feathered young suggest that they were hatched on the lake. A pair of Pied-billed grebes with young. 4 young Wilsons Phalaropes one adult Long-billed Dowitcher Five Lesser Yellowlegs, 1 Least Sandpiper, 1 Semipalmated Sandpiper + a number of kildeer [killdeer] made up the shore bird assemblage. Yellowheaded blackbirds very abundant, redwings less common. Holboell grebes 2 prs [pairs] with young seen. The lake has the densest beds of Chara I have seen anywhere In the deeper areas the chara is mixed with Myriophyllum or replaced by water buttercup or Potamogeton pusillus + pectinatus Scirpus acutus + Typha surround the entire margin.
