  • LEFT PAGE 248 Strong Cement Melt together in an Iron dish, equal parts of Gutta percha and common pitch and when stirred, pour the mass into cold water. This becomes perfectly fluid at a temperature of 100 degrees. A still stronger cement for Leather and cloth, is made of 1 #bs [pound] Gutta percha, 4 oz [ounces] India Rubber, 2 oz [ounces] pitch, 1 oz [ounce] Shellac and 2 oz [ounces] fine sperm oil, to be melted and thoroughly mixed together and to be used hot. Feb 20 1869 --- Cement for Iron A quick setting cement is made by mixing powdered Salammoniac 1 part Powdered Sulphur 2 parts, Iron filings 80 parts all by weight, with sufficient water to make a paste March 6 1869 --- Polish for Mahogany 3 oz White Wax, 1/2 oz [ounce] Castile Soap, 1 gill Turpentine.
