Letter from Francis William Topham to Birket Foster
PublicOne of two Autographed Letter Signed (ALS) by Francis William Topham. This letter is to Birket Foster, about being unable to meet, discussing the price of land he wishes to buy, preparing to take his family to Barmouth. Francis William Topham (1808-1877) was a watercolour painter, traveller in Spain, and illustrator of Dickens. Dickens recruited Topham to his amateur theatrical company, the Guild of Literature and Art, and the painter frequently performed with Dickens, Wilkie Collins, and the artists Clarkson Stanfield and John Tenniel. Part of a collection of letters written by illustrators of Charles Dickens' works.
