Sunken Road, Dury, France - photo [All in a Lifetime illustrated autobiography chapter Page 66]
Part of the Archie Wills illustrated autobiography. Dury, between Arras and Cambrai, France, was an important location for Canadian Corps. The photograph shows a sunken road with piles of wood and wire on either side. Wills writes a description of this image in a typed caption at the bottom of the page "The Canadian Corps experienced some of its most vicious fighting in September, 1918, and the Arras-Cambrai Road was the scene of much of it...The lower picture shows the sunken road at Dury after the Germans had pulled out."
