War Diary of 1st Battalion Canadian Scottish Regiment, Vol. 31, March 1, 1942 to March 31, 1942

The war diaries are official records kept by the Battalions during a one month period. They contain the daily orders, correspondence, newsletters, and an intelligence log detailing troop activities, locations, and weather conditions. The war diaries detail the activities and movement of the 1st Battalion from training in Canada and England to active duty on the Western Front and their return to Victoria in January 1946. This diary was kept while at Denne Park, England. It has entries about mortar training, their canine mascot Wallace rejoining the battalion after getting out of the quarantine kennels, members of the R.A.F. attaching to the battalion to learn the organization of an infantry unit as a part of their training and men from the unit being attached to the R.A.F to learn about them, getting eleven men to qualify as motor cyclists or Dispatch Rider Boyes, an inspection from a Brigadier and his staff, a man being killed in an auto accident, an address from a Brigadier about preparing for a potential invasion from the "Hun" and a warning against boredom through lack of activity, participating in various exercises, and prepping summer camps, among other activities and information. Includes appendices covering orders, strength returns (daily & weekly), training syllabi, and administrative memos.
