War Diary of 1st Battalion Canadian Scottish Regiment, Vol. 24, August 1, 1941 to August 31, 1941
The war diaries are official records kept by the Battalions during a one month period. They contain the daily orders, correspondence, newsletters, and an intelligence log detailing troop activities, locations, and weather conditions. The war diaries detail the activities and movement of the 1st Battalion from training in Canada and England to active duty on the Western Front and their return to Victoria in January 1946. This diary was kept while at Debert Military Camp, Nova Scotia. It has entries about training, inspections, preparing and packing to move the battalion by train, the battalion being on board the HMT Stratheden which is part of a convoy of ships and destroyers travelling together, a 20:00 hrs blackout each evening on board the ship, the men getting used to being on board some getting sea sick, 50 cigarettes given to each man donated by the Department of National Defense, and preparing for landing, among other activities and information.
