Message from King George V, or, The Thanks for Three Years' Fighting - note [All in a Lifetime illustrated autobiography chapter Page 88]
PublicPart of the Archie Wills illustrated autobiography. A note on Buckingham Palace stationary from the English King and Queen thanking soldiers for fighting and wishing them a safe return home. In a typed caption under the photo, Archie Wills writes, "When I boarded the S.S. Royal George at Liverpool on February 10th, 1919, I was handed the above note from King George V. It was similar to one handed to every soldier on leaving for his homeland. We were expecting great things on discharge in Canada as Prime Minister Robert Borden, when he spoke to us after Vimy, said 'When you come home the country will be yours.' We found it to be just another political promise."
