The war diaries are official records kept by the Battalions during a one month period. They contain the daily orders, correspondence, newsletters, and an intelligence log detailing troop activities, locations, and weather conditions. The war diaries detail the activities and movement of the 1st Battalion from training in Canada and England to active duty on the Western Front and their return to Victoria in January 1946. This diary was kept while at Hilsea Barracks in Portsmith, England. It has entries about Private Glover (the soldier who has been either A.W.L. or imprisoned since coming overseas) being sent to Headley Downs to serve a 23 month detention, a lecture about the war in Italy, participating in various training programs and exercises including an endurance test, a Remembrance Day ceremony, inspections, the officers having a dance with the decorative theme being a Canadian Destroyer because they had ship props from a film they were shooting called "In Which We Serve", a sniper school, a wireless refresher course for officers, and practicing passing information, among other activities and information. Includes appendices covering orders, strength returns (daily & weekly), training syllabi, administrative memos, progress reports, documents for Pte. Glover case, exercises, and operational instructions.
