not now as abundant as 5 or 6 years
ago + not so many are killed
on the railroad
Field B.C. Aug. [August] 3, 1944.
All wardens agree that there are
not now the moose there used to
be.
Today at lick saw 3 [female symbol] 1 calf another [female symbol] at Leanchail.
Moult [underlined]:- Calf seen today was in
fresh winter pelage - the first
so seen.
Field. Aug [August] 4 + 5.
Saw 1 [female symbol] 1 calf 1? + 2 [male symbol]
These were at the lick, in a
swamp along the Beaverfoot +
along the Yoho Valley.
Moult [underlined]: The calf, though quite small
was acquiring winter pelage.
Condition [underlined]:- All moose seen were
in good condition. Langford
tells me that a very old bull
with teeth worn right down.
had to be destroyed [underlined] last winter
It was attempting to winter
along the Yoho above the switchback
Voice! An adult bull watched today
was feeding on willows in a
swampy meadow. It gave long
grunts as it walked about.
