- Felis concolor [Mountain lion/cougar]
Siffleur R. [river] July 15/43 [1943]
Warden Charles Phillips tells of seeing
two at play up the [word crossed out] Scalp Creek in
the autumn 7 years ago. The same
fall he came upon one in position
for a spring onto a goat. The goat
was very nervous but was trapped.
The lion ran off when disturbed.
Last summer at the ranch Mrs [Nellie]
Murphy almost stepped on one as it
lay beside a deer trail near
Scalp Creek. The noise of the water
prevented it hearing her approach.
Banff. July 25/43 [1943]
Warden Fuller tells me he has seen
tracks on the Panther last summer.
Shale Banks. Aug. [August] 14/43 [1943]
[Warden Frank] Burstrom thinks there were 4 cougar
up this valley between Devona +
Rock Creek. He found one sheep killed
by cougar last winter at Devona.
