- March 25/41 [1941] Went to Muir creek with Jim Hatter + J.F.L. Carl. Eared grebes - 2(?) Horned grebes - few Brant - few White wing scoter, Golden eye, Buffle head, Loons, Am. [American] Merganser. Pink lilies (Erythronium) were still in bud stage in damp habitats a few hundred yds [yards] upstream. Trilliums were out; also twin-flower [Linnaea - twinflower]. On way home saw strange birds in small bay where logs are dumped near Saseenos. Appeared to be grebes moulting and acquiring summer plumage - brown-red on cheeks + flanks (?)
