- March 25/41 [1941] Went to Muir creek with Jim
Hatter + J.F.L. Carl.
Eared grebes - 2(?)
Horned grebes - few
Brant - few
White wing scoter, Golden eye, Buffle
head, Loons, Am. [American] Merganser.
Pink lilies (Erythronium) were
still in bud stage in damp habitats
a few hundred yds [yards] upstream.
Trilliums were out; also twin-flower [Linnaea - twinflower].
On way home saw strange
birds in small bay where logs are
dumped near Saseenos. Appeared
to be grebes moulting and acquiring
summer plumage - brown-red on
cheeks + flanks (?)
