- Mammals - Lac la Hache area
Muskrat [underlined] Common, found in all
small lakes examined. "More numerous
now than ever (except last year)" [Forbes]
Marmot [underlined] - Observed in several areas
particularly near cultivated land. Nearest
colony to camptsite (Forbes) under old
community hall. "Came in by way of
Barkerville possibly 15 years ago" Forbes
as given by McCabe.
Ground squirrel [underlined] - Widely spread but
not numerous. In Forbes meadow (rockpile);
near tent; on Timothy Lake road; at Anthony
lake. "Came in about 15 to 16 years
afo. Fed to mink in captivity" [Forbes]
Skunk [underlined] Common + a nuisance. One
female taken in trap July 4 at old
community hall. Extremely fat.
Porcupine [underlined] Common - Cattle get quills
in nose - 2 steers unfit for shipping as result
of quills in nose preventing feeding.
Lynx [underlined] "Not right here now; used to be when
a boy". [Forbes]
Racoon [underlined] "None here" [Forbes]
