Brocard Sewell Collection
User Collection PublicFather Brocard Sewell (1912-2000) was a British Carmelite friar, a literary critic, and editor of the journal, "The Aylesford Review".
The Brocard Sewell Collection is comprised of correspondence from Eric Gill to Clare Pepler dating from 1924 to 1925, which Sewell likely obtained while writing his book “Saint Dominic's Press: A Bibliography 1916-1937.” Clare Pepler’s husband Hilary Douglas Clark Pepler founded Saint Dominic’s Press (located in Ditchling, East Sussex, England), which printed religious and secular works, often with illustrations by Eric Gill. Pepler co-founded The Guild of St. Joseph and St. Dominic with Eric Gill, Desmond Chute, and Joseph Cribb. The Guild was a Catholic community of artists and craftspeople associated with the Arts and Crafts movement.
